  1. The check is payable to another person and that person signed over the check to you?  If that is the case, that person needs to properly endorse it.  They need to sign the back (on top)-  the best practice is for that person to also write "Pay to the Order of" and write your name legibly.  If you have an established account- (6mos or more)- then you should be able to deposit as normal and have the funds available as normal.  You may have a hold on those funds if the check is for an excessive amount (say more than 1,000), the funds are much greater than your average daily balance, check is out-of-state, or if your account has not been on good terms (numerous NSFs, negative balances).  Now, if you need to get cash from some of those funds, most tellers will not do so if the cash is more than 100 and you do not have an established acct in good standing.  Ask to speak to a teller supervisor or manager if you get shot down.  There should not be a fee.  Having a photocopy of the person's ID could be helpful.

  2. No, but that other person must sign the check.

  3. I don't think you can do that with a teller unless you have  joint checking account or power of attorney for the person in question.

If the person trust you enough to give you their pin number you can deposit the check through the atm with no more trouble than depositing your own checks.

  4. if your just depositing the check all it has to be is signed . .

  5. They have to endorse it over to you.

  6. Have them endorse it and deposit it.

  7. If you go through the drive thru you won't have to have anything but their signature on the back of the check, and a deposit slip for their account, or fill one out with their account information on the slip.  The only reason you would need identification is if you were pulling money out of the check or account.

  8. You would probably have to call the bank. At my old bank anyone could deposit my check. Deposit only and they blacked out the balance on the deposit slip. The person's check would of course have to be signed and a deposit slip filled out. But like I said, every bank is different, so I'd call and check.

  9. If you're talking about depositing a check to your friend into your friend's account, then you should be OK so long as your friend ensorses the back of the check.

    >>Instructions on endorsing checks anyone?

If you look on the back side of the check, there should be a vertical line on one side.  Turn the check to one side and it will probably say "Endsorse Here" underneath the line.  That's where your friend signs the check.
