Depressed Khan-Peterson fight supervisor Michael Welsh discommodes WBA – Boxing news
The Khan-Peterson fight supervisor, Michael Welsh is reportedly in a state of depression due to the growing hype of the fight’s controversial results.
The World Boxing Association (WBA) officials have decided to visit Welsh’s residence in order to get a word on his health, since he has been out of touch during the entire last week.
Vice-president of the WBA Gilberto Mendoza, who last week ordered Khan vs. Peterson rematch, told media reporters that officials from the WBA will be visiting Welsh to inquire about his well-being.
Quashing rumours that suggest Welsh is going through a hard-time, following Khan’s petition of a rematch three weeks ago regarding his highly criticised split-points defeat, Gilberto Mendoza stated, “We are sending a WBA director to visit Michael Welsh at
his home as we have been unable to get through to him for the last week. The most we know is that he has personal issues he is dealing with. We have called him several times but we are getting no response from him. We hope that by the end of the weekend we
will be able to out a statement explaining this entire situation.”
However, reports indicate that the much-lambasted supervisor is troubled with the outcomes of the decision. The controversy and the hype surrounding it have grown enormously in the last three weeks, after the IBF discovered a ‘mystery man’ who, according
to Khan, was an unwanted and suspicious presence.
Welsh clarified his position in all of this by saying that he tried to double-check results with the District of Columbia Commission and IBF supervisors after the fight, however to his amusement they had left before he could be in contact with them.
Initially, Amir Khan was blaming the referee for being unjust. However later on, after the suspicious man was spotted in the venue, Amir switched his focus from the referee to the judges, saying that the same mystery man had hijacked the results.
The mystery man was later identified by the IBF as Mustafa Ameen who works with the IBF for charity purposes but is not an official employee of the organisation. Mustafa Ameen presented his justification to the IBF saying that he was nowhere near the authorities,
and therefore the claim of hijacking results was invalid.
With all of such stories making headlines, the former champion Amir is relentless to get his rematch, whereas the current champion Lamont Peterson is offended with former’s claims and is objecting the immediate rematch fixture.
Lamont Peterson is of the view that he needs time to recover and will go for the rematch when he is physically ready. Amir had wanted the IBF the reverse the decision, but is now in mood of getting an immediate rematch.
