Depression medication..please someone, have you found one that actually makes you feel happy?

Question

My husband has extreme depression and all the meds he has ever been on are mood stabilizers. The problem though is that he feels no joy, no get up and go, pointless and basically the only real way to describe it is numb. He see his Doctor this week and I have been doing research trying desperately to find medication that actually elevates a person's mood. I just want to find some of these types so that he can discuss it with his Doctor. You know, somewhere to start.

Please, I beg for your help!

i know you asked for medicine, i have none to say. everyone i know including my mother that is on pills for that, still feel like sh it, but what i have found to help me out is polyphenols, found in green teas and such, you can get the extract, but i found that loose green teas, or a chai rooibos works great

I have severe depression - history of manic depression in family.  I'm not manic - yet - but very depressed.  I've been on Effexor for 3 or 4 years and seems to work.  I can join in with others and laugh and have a good time.  My husband was recently put on it also.  The only bad side effect is erectile dysfunction.  There are things on the market to help, and the doctor can decide what is needed, but talke to him about effexor and good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. It must be extremely difficult for both of you. You're a loving wife to take the time and effort to help your husband.

I, too, suffer from depression. I am taking meds for it but I also understand that antidepressant medication isn't designed to make you happy just to alleviate the depressive symptoms. I take novobupropion and it works very well for me...but, that's for me. Your husband may need something beyond meds...Talk with the doctor. Your husband is a lucky man to have a loving wife like you.
