Derby County denies permanent Luke Varney deal
Championship side Derby County has denied that striker Luke Varney is set to join Blackpool on a permanent basis.
Varney's loan deal with Blackpool expires today but Derby has gone on to confirm that negotiations have started to extend the loan deal to the end of December. The club has also confirmed that Blackpool
will not have an exclusive chance to sign him.
"Just to clarify the situation with Luke Varney's
future, contrary to what has been reported in the national press there is no clause in the current loan deal which allows Blackpool
exclusive access to sign the player permanently in January," a Derby County spokesman told the Derby Telegraph.
A number of clubs are bound to be impressed with the way Varney has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water. Derby wants to get the best deal for the player if
he ultimately does leave, which may not necessarily come from Blackpool, arguably the smallest club in the Premier League.
"Luke can be sold to any club during the next transfer window with no
specification on the price of any potential transfer. Hopefully, this will dispel any future confusion regarding the matter," the spokesman added.
Derby County manager Nigel Clough is one of the many that are happy and maybe a little surprised at how well Varney has done at Blackpool. He should have first say on the
striker's future after his two goals in eight Premier League appearances to date. However, Clough has enough experience to know that Varney will be itching to get back into Premier League football.
"The loan is up (Wednesday) and we are desperate to keep him. Negotiations
are ongoing to try to keep him [at Blackpool] until December 31," said Clough.
Betting advice
Varney is full of confidence and playing well at Blackpool. Keep backing him to score goals and help Blackpool if the two clubs can reach an agreement that will allow him to
stay with the Tangerines. Keep faith in Varney even if he does go back to Derby or joins another team.
