Ignazio Abate’s error down the Italian Champions in Milan derby, as the Rossoneri slump to their first defeat in 13 matches...
A second-half winner from Diego Milito sinks bitter rivals, A.C Milan, in Derby della Madonnina at San Siro on Sunday, January 15th, 2012.
The Rossoneri failed to take advantage of Juventus’ slip against Cagliari, as Inter registered their sixth consecutive league win.
Alexandre Pato was handed a start alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-Aquilani-c4313 in the midfield. On the other hand, Claudio Ranieri persisted with the same side which defeated Parma 5-0
recently. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Forlan returned to the bench after recovering from injuries.
The Nerazzurri got the game off to an almost perfect start, as Thiago Motta planted a header in Milan goal after just five minutes, but the referee ruled it out for offside.
Minutes later, the Champions had a lovely opportunity to take the lead, but Kevin-Prince Boateng’s deflected volley was smashed over the bar by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexandre-Pato-c4901. The hosts continued to dominate the proceedings, as they came close
to taking the lead on numerous occasions in the first 20 minutes.
Milan played a short corner, and after finding himself in acres of space, Boateng blasted his shot over the bar by few inches.
Massimiliano Allegri’s men continued to threaten the opposition. After a lovely one-two with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ignazio-Abate-c16673, Boateng played a superb cross towards Ibrahimovic, whose wonderful back-heel effort looped onto the roof of the net.
The Rossoneri dominated the possession in the first-half hour’s play and were clearly better of the two sides. Inter had a lovely opportunity to score in the 40th minute, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yuto-Nagatomo-c37726 played a lovely cross to Ricky
Alvarez, but the Argentine’s effort was met by a brilliant save from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Abbiati-c9046.
Just before the half-time whistle, Mark Van Bommel’s thunderous strike from outside the box rattled against the cross-bar, and the follow-up effort was met by a lovely save from Julio Cesar.
Milan went into the half-time break as the better side but they would be ruing the clear opportunities missed.
No personnel changes were made during the break as the two teams looked to break the deadlock in the second-half.
The second-half started at a similar pace, as Milan continued to dominate the proceedings. However, they were made to pay for their wastefulness in-front of goal, as Inter broke the deadlock against the run of play in the 54th
minute. A huge mistake from Abate in defence let Milito run into the opposition box, and the Argentinean finished a curling effort into the far corner to make it 1-0 for the Nerazzurri.
Abate looked to make amends for his mistake almost immediately, but his dangerous cross from the right-flank was met by a superb clearance from Lucio. The visitors grew in confidence after taking the lead, and after beating Abate
with his pace, Nagatomo’s powerful strike was palmed away to safety by Abbiati.
Milan continued to threaten with lovely attacking play but they lacked the killer touch. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Clarence-Seedorf-c9275 and Stephan El-Shaarawy came close to scoring in the latter part of the game, but Cesar was at his best to deny the duo.
The Champions slumped to their first defeat in 12 matches, as they threw away the advantage to become the undisputed league leaders. The Rossoneri dropped to second-place in the league, while Inter remain fifth.
