Derbyshire beat Warwickshire by 33 runs: Friends Life T20 2011 - Second Innings Recap
Warwickshire had to chase down 163 runs for victory against Derbyshire in a match of the Friends Life Twenty20, at the Edgbaston, Birmingham in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Wednesday, July 6, 2011.
The hosts had some quality batsmen in their line-up, who were capable of chasing down any target. However, things didn’t turn out to be as they would have expected, as the entire team was bowled-out for 129 in 17.2 overs.
There were only four batsmen in the Warwickshire innings to reach double figures whereas the rest failed miserably. The highest score of the innings came from the top of the order, as opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Varun-Chopra-c2745 collected 40 runs. His effort went in vain
though, as the rest of the team failed to make most of the solid platform.
Derbyshire’s spinner, Tom Knight, caused a lot of problems for the opposition, as he picked up three wickets in the match.
The playing conditions didn’t change http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-James-Muchall-c60376, as the pitch was still good for batting. However, the ball came a bit slower on the bat, which made it difficult for the batsmen to hit boundaries.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862’s openers, Chopra and Darren Maddy tried to attack the bowlers from the start when the ball was hard and new. They smashed 14 runs off the first over, giving a positive start to their side.
However, Maddy was unable to make the most of the start he got to his innings and was dismissed after scoring just nine runs off five balls with the help of a couple of boundaries.
Ireland’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/William-Thomas-Stuart-Porterfield-c97921 walked out to join the team’s opener and the pair played really well, collecting 47 runs for the second wicket partnership.
Chopra was on song and looked threatening, as he was smashing the bowlers to all parts of the park. He showed no mercy to the opposition and scored 40 runs off just 17 deliveries in his lightening knock. His innings included five fours and two monstrous
sixes.
The flamboyant batsman should have tried to bat longer though, as he was dismissed in the fifth over. He was followed by his team’s skipper, Jim Troughton, who only managed three runs in his http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 stay at the crease.
All-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rikki-Clarke-c85428, was also unable to get going and was sent back to the hut for five. He was followed by the Irishman, who scored 14 runs off the same number of deliveries faced.
Wicketkeeper batsman, Tim Ambrose and Steffan Piolet offered some resistance, scoring 25 and 14 in their respective outings, but failed to bat until the end and win the match.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 ended up with terrific figures of 3/19 in four overs, guiding his team to an easy win.
