Derbyshire defeat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784 by six wickets: County Championship Division Two - Third Innings recap
Glamorgan were in deep trouble, as they were forced to bat for the second consecutive time by Derbyshire in the match of the County Championship Division Two, at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
The hosts were bowled out for 213 in their first innings and managed 283 in their second outing. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-James-Powell-c75991 played well this time around, scoring 87 runs for his side, giving them some hope in the match.
Playing conditions were good and the pitch had eased out with the passage of time. There was still some assistance for the semaers though, as the new ball did a few tricks, causing a few problems for the batsmen.
Following-on, Glamorgan’s start was yet again disappointing, as they lost a few quick wickets at the top of the order. Opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Henry-John-Rees-c58403, was not able to make an impression for the second consecutive time in the match and was sent back to the
pavilion after collecting eight runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/William-Bragg-c2795 was also not able to make most of the good batting conditions, as he was dismissed for 16 runs off 19 balls with the help of three boundaries.
The home team’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alviro-Nathan-Petersen-c43849, who did a tremendous job for his side in the first innings, was unable to make an impression for the second consecutive time. He got out for 17, but would have been really tired, as he batted for most part of the
first outing and had to come out and open once again.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-James-Wright-c47592 tried to settle down, but didn’t manage a decent performance for his team. He was dismissed after scoring 13 runs with the help of a couple of boundaries.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Allenby-c65438 was the next man to be dismissed in the innings after scoring 17 runs. He took his time to settle down, but gave his wicket away at the wrong time of the innings, leaving Glamorgan struggling at 83/5.
It seemed that the hosts wouldn’t be able to avoid an innings defeat at that stage, but they were brought back in the match with a solid effort by their middle-order players, Powell and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Alexander-Wallace-c74495.
The pair constructed a brilliant 136-run stand for the sixth wicket, guiding their team into a very good position. They got out after scoring 87 and 70 runs in their respective outings, but gave some hope to their dressing room and the fans.
None of the lower-order players managed to post a challenging effort against the opposition and the entire team was sent back to the hut for 283 runs in the end.
Tony Palladino enjoyed the conditions, as he picked up four wickets in the innings for Derbyshire.
