http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Wednesday, June 22, 2011.
The hosts would have liked to restrict the opposition to a lesser total, but Madsen shifted the momentum towards Derbyshire in the end.
However, the target was not impossible to achieve and Yorkshire had some quality batsmen in their line-up, who could prove to be dangerous on their given day.
One worry for the home team was the pitch, which was becoming slower with the passage of time. This made life a bit difficult for the Yorkshire batsmen and they struggled to get going.
The innings was started by Yorkshire’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Gale-c1039, and the team’s wicketkeeper batsman, Jonny Bairstow. They pair failed to make an impression and the first wicket fell in the very first over, as Gale got out after adding just two runs to the total.
The second wicket to fall in the innings was that of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Lyth-c922. He looked good in the middle and scored 17 runs quickly. He was unable to carry onto the start to his innings though and was dismissed after an impressive beginning.
Things got difficult for the home team, as they lost their middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107 stay at the crease. His downfall left the team struggling at 38 for the loss
of three wickets.
The next batsman to go was Bairstow, who limped to 16 runs off 24 deliveries. He struggled to find the middle of his bat and didn’t hit a single boundary during his stay at the crease. Yorkshire were really struggling at that stage with four wickets down
for just 53 runs on the board.
However, lower-order players, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johmari-Logtenberg-c67228 Root and Gary Balance, steadied the ship for their team. They collected 82 runs for the fifth wicket partnership and guided their side to a very good position.
Ballance was the more aggressive partner out of the two and scored 46 runs from 32 balls, striking one four and three thunderous sixes. He missed-out on a half-century though and was dismissed in the death overs.
Root remained unbeaten on 46, but was unable to guide his side to victory. He faced 41 balls in his innings and struggled to find the boundary. Most of his runs came via good running between the wickets, as he struck just a couple of fours in his outing.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tim-Groenewald-c2670 has been doing a brilliant job for his side and bowed well again, picking up one wicket for 25 runs.
