Derbyshire lose momentum against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 on third day’s play
Derbyshire were in a spot of bother after losing four quick wickets in their second innings against Surrey in a match of the County Championship Division Two, at the County Ground Derby in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. The hosts ended day-three of the match at 35 for the loss
of four wickets, but they had an overall second innings lead of 77 runs over the opposition on Tuesday, May 31st, 2011.
The home team got into a very good position after being put into bat. They amassed 375 runs for the loss of seven wickets until close of play, but the weather conditions didn’t allow any play on the next day. This hurt the chances of a result in the game
badly, but the visitors will now be sniffing a chance of a victory.
Derbyshire posted 400 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their first outing before the innings was declared. The team’s first-drop, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chesney-Hughes-c1233, was the star of the show, scoring a brilliant century. He ended up with 124 runs from 210 balls, smashing
15 fours and one massive six.
There were also some solid contributions from the middle-order batsmen. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dan-Redfern-c1306 collected 55 runs and was involved in a century stand along with Hughes. Apart from that, Derbyshire’s skipper, Luke Sutton, also played well, scoring 49 runs for his side.
Tim Linley was the stand out performer for Surrey, taking six wickets for his team. He bowled extremely well and didn’t give many opportunities to the batsmen to score runs. However, he would have liked some support from the other bowlers as well in order
to restrict the opposition to a lesser total.
The visitors’ openers, Jason Roy and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rory-Hamilton-Brown-c2366, started the innings in a positive manner. They attacked the bowlers, scoring 63 runs for the first wicket partnership in just 50 balls.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 was the first man to be dismissed in the Surrey innings after scoring 31 runs off 33 deliveries. He was followed by former England batsman, Mark Ramprakash, who failed to make an impression and got out for five.
However, Hamilton-Brown played a terrific innings of a run-a-ball 69 runs. Surrey’s middle-order batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Davies-c2542 and Tom Maynard batted with responsibility, scoring 53, 78 and 64 in their respective innings.
The visitors ended their first innings with 358 runs on the board and they were troubled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steffan-Jones-c2570, who dismissed three batsmen in the Surrey innings.
Derbyshire gained a useful lead of 42 runs, but lost four wickets for just 26 runs in their second outing. At close of play on day-three, Durston and Redfern were unbeaten on 12 and two respectively. They will look to guide their team in a safe position
on the final day’s play.
Linley was once again impressive with the ball, finishing the day with two wickets.
