Derbyshire sign Rana Naveed for 2012 season - Cricket News Update
The Derbyshire County Cricket Club will have the services of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789. This will be seventh
season in the English county circuit.
The 33-year-old right-arm medium pacer from Pakistan will be available to the county throughout the Flt20 campaign. Rana Naved will join the Pakistani born Australian batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 as the second overseas player at the County
Ground Derby.
Khawaja, who has been signed by the county for the whole 2012 season, is likely to be called up by Cricket Australia in July to play for the Australia A team. In that case Naved is likely to fill his place for the County Championship
and the Clydesdale Bank 40 tournament.
Derbsyhire head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karl-Matthew-Krikken-c70321 was happy to have signed Rana Naveed and hopes the Pakistan pacer will bring his match-winning momentum to the county.
"We wanted our second overseas player to be a match-winner," said Karl Krikken speaking to media reporters after the county finalised the deal with the pacer. "Rana's performances throughout his career demonstrate we have ticked those
boxes with this signing," he hoped.
Rana Naved, the 33-year-old right-arm medium pacer has not played for Pakistan since February 2010, and has the reputation of a specialist bowler in the T20 format, where he has claimed 102 Twenty20 wickets at an impressive average
of 19.57. He was the leading wicket taker in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s Big Bash League, where he claimed 15 scalps for Hobart.
The county Chairman Chris Grant was also excited to have Rana Naved signed for the 2012 season. He said that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 pacer has proven that he is an inspirational performer in the shortest format of the game and hoped that his
inclusion would boost the morale of the side.
"Not only do I expect him to help us win matches, he is also a very entertaining player to watch," said Grant speaking to media reporters on Tuesday.
"His skills and larger than life personality have added an extra dimension to T20 nights in Hobart of late and I'm sure that will be replicated at the County Ground this summer," he added further.
