Derbyshire County Cricket Club, on Thursday signed former Essex batsman Billy Godleman on a two-year contract.
The 23-year-old gangling left-hander, who had joined http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 CCC for the 2010 season, struggled for a regular position in their first-team in the 2012 season before being released by the club towards the end of the season. He played 33 first-class matches last season, compiling a tally of 1,640 runs.
Godleman started his first class career with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785, he lost his place in the first XI in the latter half of the summer, and failed to get his contract renewed at the end of the season.
The lanky left-hander has also represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 throughout the junior ranks, from Under-15s to Under-19s, though he is yet to make his international debut. To date, he has played 69 first class matches for all sides, scoring 3447 runs at an average of 30.23.
While speaking to media reporters after signing the two-year contract with Derbyshire, Billy conceded that his form over the last couple of seasons has not been satisfactory, and hoped to develop his game in all formats with his new county.
"I believe this opportunity with one of the most ambitious and progressive clubs in the game will provide the platform to re-establish my early credentials as a prospective England player," Godleman said.
"If I can develop my game in all formats within Derbyshire's committed learning environment, I believe my runs at the top of the order can provide the foundation to build more success for the team next season," he added further.
Derbyshire's head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karl-Matthew-Krikken-c70321 called Billy as an exciting signing for the club. While speaking to media after finalizing the deal, Krikken said that at the age of 23, the left-hander has a great chance to develop at the club level and fulfil his potential.
