On the opening day of the three-day tour match of Australia A against English county side Derbyshire, fans witnessed Australia clobber a nerve racking total of 362 runs for the loss of four wickets, at County Ground, Derby.
The hosts, now trail by 305 runs with nine wickets in hand, after having scored 57 runs at stumps.
The day began with Australia A winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Openers EJM Cowan and M Klinger forged an opening stand of 35 runs, before Derbyshire’s ML Turner terminated Klinger on a knock of 25.
Derbyshire were reduced to rubble on the arrival of PJ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stewart-Jonathan-Walters-c91389 in the middle, as the batsman forged a resounding partnership alongside Cowan.
The two batsmen launched a merciless batting onslaught, hammering insurmountable shots all around the park.
After conceding 144 runs, Derbyshire, finally made a comeback by sending Forrest back to the pavilion on a knock of 52 runs off 79 deliveries.
However, Derbyshire’s troubles were far from over, as the arrival of GJ Bailey produced another potent partnership for Australia A.
The duo of Cowan and Bailey proved just too good of the bowlers to be stopped, as the batsmen scored all around the park.
With a massive total of 229 runs, Australia suffered the demise of their third wicket with Cowan getting caught behind after smashing 109 runs.
This was the moment for the hosts to make a comeback in the match by grabbing a couple of more wickets.
However, GJ Bailey and JA http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Burns-c48842 refused to budge, as they kept smashing the bowlers out of town.
On the penultimate delivery of the 70th over, Bailey became the fourth wicket of day, finding his way off the field after scoring 81 runs. At the time of this wicket, Australia has amassed a total of 340 runs.
With JA Burns unbeaten on 74, the Aussies declared their innings to give their bowlers a go at the hosts.
