Derbyshire v Durham - Friends Life T20 - North Group - Derbyshire assemble 141 runs - First Innings Update
Derbyshire 141/6 (20/20 ov) - Derbyshire won the toss and chose to bat
Finally with a week of clear skies in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749, fans have had a tremendous Friends Life T20 tournament, where matches have ended with results and teams have fought to better their position on the points table.
On Wednesday, the game between Derbyshire and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782, saw Derbyshire winning the toss and choosing to bat first in a bid to stagger an amazing total on the board to leave their opponents l*****g their wounds.
From Derbyshire, UT Khawaja and WJ Durston came out to bat their team towards a mammoth total at County Ground, Derby.
However, tragedy struck early as with only a run on the board, the opening pair was split, as WJ Durston was caught by Breese on nil.
Number-three batsman, RA Whiteley, had to come in the middle sooner than he had hoped for, but it was vital for him to stay on the wicket for as long as possible in order to avert a batting meltdown.
The side suffered the demise of their second wicket when Whiteley was removed by ME Claydon after batting 19 runs off 16 deliveries.
Khawaja was then joined by skipper, WL Madsen, as the two batsmen smashed the bowlers in a bid to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Taking the score to 89 runs, the partnership ended on the departure of Khawaja, who was caught behind by Mustard after scoring a knock of 36 runs.
With the well-set opener back in the dressing room, things were not going as planned and Derbyshire desperately needed a better show from the remaining batsmen in order to prevail in the high intensity match.
Plunkett struck for the second time in the match, by nabbing the wicket of Derbyshire’s skipper, who hit the showers after bolstering a knock of 26 runs. At the time of this wicket, the batting side had amassed 92 runs.
DJ Redfern and CF Hughes then tried to stay calm and collected in order to post a defendable total for their bowlers, as the side managed to pull a tally of 141 runs in 20 overs for the loss of six wickets.
