Derbyshire v Durham - Friends Life T20 - North Group - Durham win by 5 wickets - Live Score and Update
Derbyshire 141/6 (20/20 ov) v Durham 142/5 (18.5/20 ov) - Durham won by 5 wickets (with 7 balls remaining)
June 20, 2012: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 pulled off a five-wicket victory against Derbyshire in the ongoing Friends Life T20 tournament, at County Ground, Derby on Wednesday.
After losing the toss, Durham were made to field by their opponents, but the bowlers prospered well in front of a decent batting line-up, restricting Derbyshire from getting carried away as Durham fielders allowed the opposition only to amass a total of 141 runs for the loss of six wickets.
After a job well-done on the field, it was time for Durham’s batsmen to prove their mettle and chase down the required target of 142 runs needed to win the match.
The side failed to get off to a blazing start as with only 18 runs on the board, the first wicket fell on the demise of opener, P Mustard, who found his way back to the pavilion after scoring a knock of eight runs.
Then with the addition of only one run, the side lost their second wicket in the next over, as star batsman, BA Stokes, edged a delivery straight to wicketkeeper Poynton, off the bowling of TD Groenewald, on a tally of one.
These were testing times for the batting side, and they required a mature partnership to get them through in the match, which was at the time slipping out of their hands.
With 86 runs on the board, it was time for DJ Wainwright to crash the party by penetrating the defences of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HH-Gibbs-c1549, who saw his stumps incinerated after amassing an innings of 38 runs.
All-rounder, Naved-ul-Hasan, then decided not to stay behind as he dismissed wicketkeeper/batsman, DM Benkenstein, on one run to wreck havoc among the ranks of Durham.
However, just when everything was heading south for the team batting second, the pair of GJ Muchall and JG Myburgh staggered a moment defining innings as they resisted the bowlers long enough to put their side in a winnable position.
While Myburgh departed after smashing an innings of 46 runs, Muchall stayed unhindered on a knock of 21 alongside GR Breese (7) to drive the team across the finish line in 18.5 overs.
