Essex 245 & 85/1 (19.0 ov) v Derbyshire 266 - Essex lead by 64 runs with 9 wickets remaining
On the third day of the ongoing County Championship Division Two clash between Derbyshire and Essex, the latter lead by 64 runs with nine wickets in hand, on Thursday, August 30, at County Ground, Derby.
With no play on the second day due to heavy showers, Derbyshire resumed their first innings from a total of 28 for three.
PM Borrington and WJ Durston, however, failed to take the side towards a big total as with only 32 on the board, the short-lived partnership came to its end on the demise of Durston, who perished after scoring only a run.
Borrington was then joined by DJ Redfern and the two batsmen launched a blatant offensive, hammering the bowlers out of town.
The batting duo took the score to 92, before the home side saw the demise of their fifth wicket with Borrington getting trapped in front of stumps off the bowling of DD Masters on a score of 42 off 99.
The collaboration between Redfern and RA Whiteley was also short-lived as with 111 runs, Redfern after jabbing a knock of 31, was caught by Westley off GR Napier.

With Essex loving their time in the field, Whiteley and T Poynton forged a staggering partnership, effectively dismantling the bowling attack they were up against.
After conceding a total of 206, Essex made a comeback with TR Craddock bowling-out RA Whiteley on a knock of 56.
While Poynton stayed unbeaten with 55 runs to his name, he was supported by TD Groenewald and ML Turner, who scored 18 and 13 to help the side amass 266 in reply to Essex’s first innings total of 245.
From the visitors, DD Masters was outstanding with a five-wicket haul, supported by GR Napier who took three wickets.
Essex then amassed a total of 85 runs for the loss of one wickets in their second innings at stumps.
