Derbyshire v Hampshire - County Championship Division Two - Day 3 – Live Score and Update
Hampshire 272 & 142/6 (56.0 ov) v Derbyshire 275 - Hampshire lead by 139 runs with 4 wickets remaining
At stumps on the third day of the four-day County Championship Division Two match between Derbyshire and Hampshire, the latter lead by 139 with four wickets in hand on Thursday, September 13, at County Ground, Derby.
The day began with the hosts resuming their first innings from the overnight score of 167 for the loss of five wickets.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 unbeaten on 71, Derbyshire were hoping that the batsman would continue his insurmountable form; however, this was not his day, as with 170 on the board, Khawaja became the first wicket of the day, perishing without scoring a run.
RA Whiteley, who had scored only five runs a day earlier, was joined by DJ Wainwright as the two batsmen initiated a rebuild phase; however, after taking the score to 191, the partnership met its demise on the wicket of Wainwright, who faltered on a seven
runs.
With seven wickets down, things were looking bleak for the batting side. Nonetheless, Whiteley pulled off a resounding innings of 57 runs as he lead his side to a first innings tally of 275 in reply to Hampshire’s first innings score of 272.
From Hampshire, JA Tomlinson and SM Ervine shared three wickets each as they incinerated Derbyshire’s batting line-up.
Beginning their second innings, Hampshire lost two wickets with only 16 runs on the board. However, BM Shafayat and LA Dawson halted the bowling offensive long enough to steer the side to a score of 40, before the latter lost his wicket to ML Turner after
scoring 16 runs.
The duo of Shafayat and JM Vince then forged another irritating partnership for the hosts, as the two batsmen took the score to 81, before Hampshire suffered the loss of their fourth wicket with Vince perishing on 26.
With SM Ervine hammering 20 runs, Shafayat scored an unbeaten knock of 52 as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 ended the day with 142 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets.
