Kent had to chase down 250 runs for victory against Derbyshire in a Group A match of the Clydesdale Bank 40, at the County Ground, Derby in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Sunday, July 24, 2011.
The hosts were guided to a brilliant total by New Zealand’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Guptill-c1980, who top scored the match with 102 runs.
However, there was enough fire power in the Kent’s batting line-up to chase down the target. The team struggled to keep wickets in tact though, losing the match by 31 runs in the end.
Darren http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stevens-c91368 was the top scorer for the visitors, collecting 65 runs, but his effort went in vain. There was no problem for the team with the run-rate, but wickets kept on falling at regular intervals, restricting the side to 218 in 34.1 overs in the end.
The pitch had remained good for the batsmen and a close finish was predicted between the two sides.
Kent shuffled their batting order, opening the innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sam-W-Billings-c88204 and Pakistan’s Azhar Mahmmod. The pair came out in an aggressive mood, but failed to make a significant impression.
