Derbyshire v Lancashire - Friends Life T20 - North Group - Lancashire post 168 runs - Live Score and Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 168/6 (20/20 ov) - Derbyshire chose to field
June 14, 2012: In another match of the ongoing Friends Life T20 tournament, Lancashire after being put into bat amassed a tally of 168 runs for the loss of six wickets against Derbyshire, at County Ground, Derby.
Earlier with clear skies up above, Derbyshire chose to field first as they wanted a clear target for their batsmen later when coming out to chase. This was perhaps the right move, considering the depth in Derbyshire’s batting line-up.
Meanwhile, Lancashire knew that they would need to get off to a flying start in order to put the opposition under pressure right from the word go.
Opener, SC Moore and TC http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 failed to put a big show as the opening partnership came to its end with only 11 runs on the board as Smith faltered after scoring nine runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moore-c77694 then launched a baffling batting partnership with skipper SJ Croft as the duo clobbered the bowlers out of town.
The batsmen knew that the longer they stayed on the wicket without scoring, the harder the situation would become later in the match.
On the other hand, Derbyshire bowlers knew they needed to grab wickets in order to maintain a steady pressure on their opponents and prevent them from bolstering a huge total on the board.
Finally with 50 run on the board, Moore became the second wicket of day as he fell after smashing a 34-run knock off 21 deliveries.
With the partnership broken, it was an opportunity for Derbyshire to get back in the game and annihilate the remaining batting line-up.
However, it was easier said than done, as KR Brown – another tough operator – joined the party and provided his skipper commendable support.
The two took the score to 94 runs after which it was time for Brown to hit the showers as he was dismissed by CF Hughes. The batsman walked off the field after scoring a knock of 27 runs.
Later the middle-order chipped in, but it was the skipper who did the bulk of the scoring as he stood tall with an innings of 46 runs to his name, helping the team bolster a defendable total.
