Derbyshire v Northamptonshire: County Championship Division Two - Day One Summary
Ross Whiteley’s brilliant batting performance guided Derbyshire out of trouble against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
The visitors ended day-one of play at 321 for the loss of eight wickets. They were five down for 39 runs at one stage of the innings, but Whiteley played a spectacular knock, collecting 103 runs for his team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jonathan-Clare-c1729 also played a vital role, rescuing Derbyshire from trouble. He was involved in a mammoth 182-run stand with Whiteley for the seventh wicket. Clare was unable to reach his century though, as he was dismissed for 82 runs.
There was some moisture beneath the surface of the pitch, which suggested that the ball might do a few tricks in the first couple of sessions of play.

The Kiwi player was the first man to be dismissed in the innings. He collected eight runs in his short stay at the crease. He was followed by his opening partner, who faced 10 balls, but failed to open his account.

26 runs to the total.
The fall of wicket didn’t trouble the visitors much this time, as Whiteley and Clare changed the complexion of the game with a fabulous 182-run partnership for the seventh wicket.
Clare got out after scoring 82 runs with the help of nine fours. He was followed by Whiteley, who ended up being the top scorer for his team. He scored 103 runs with the help of 16 fours and one six.
At close of play, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tim-Groenewald-c2670 and Tony Palladino were batting on 14 and 32 respectively.
Northamptonshire’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chaminda-Vaas-c1223 was the pick of the bowlers for his side, taking four wickets in the day.
