Derbyshire v Warwickshire - Clydesdale Bank 40 - Group C - Warwickshire win - Live Score and Update
Warwickshire 242/6 (40/40 ov) v Derbyshire 137 (32.1/40 ov) - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 won by 105 runs
Monday, June 04: In the ongoing Clydesdale Bank 40 tournament, Warwickshire won their Group C match against hosts Derbyshire by 105 runs at County Ground, Derby, with the help of an outstanding bowling performance from 23-year-old, right-arm medium-pacer, Steffan Piolet, who completed a haul of four wickets to restrict Derbyshire from reaching the required target.
The bowler was backed by pacer CR Woakes, who stayed second best with three wickets to his name.
Needing a target of 243 runs to win in 40 overs, the hosts had a terrible start to their innings as they lost their top order without much on the board, and the demolition of the upper batsmen was so severe that it actually cost the side this match.
With just two runs on the board, opener CF Hughes had his stumps obliterated by Woakes before he could open his account.
On the next delivery, WJ Durston, who had come in at number-three was caught behind without scoring a run.
Then with 25 runs on the board, it was time for Derbyshire to lose their third wicket as they saw the demise of their skipper, WL Madsen, on 12 runs.
Woakes then struck for the third time by nabbing the wicket of opener DJ Redfern, who perished after scoring a short innings of nine runs.
With the top order sitting back in the pavilion, it was a tough ask from the middle-order to hold their own and lead the team to victory.
Except for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Justin-Lee-Langer-c69712 Clare, who clobbered an inspiring innings of 57 runs, none of the remaining batsmen seemed capable enough of handling the pressure of the bowling they were up against and kept losing their wickets cheaply without putting much of a fight.
During the run chase, Derbyshire never looked in command and were always lagging behind the required run rate which consequently resulted in their demise in 32.1 after amassing a total of 137 runs.
