Dereck Chisora bests Wladimir Klitschko at presser
Thursday morning heavyweight challenger Dereck Chisora and champion Wladimir Klitschko met for a press conference to promote their upcoming 11 December bout, and things got ugly.
Chisora and Klitschko engaged in the usual back and forth parlance, with the challenger retorting to personal blows and clearly vexing the Ukrainian champion.
Chisora said that he hadn’t watched any of Klitschko’s fights, just his ring entrances before his fights, since they were the only interesting part to watch.
He then launched into Klitschko’s personal life by asking whom he “loves more,” his heavyweight titles or his girlfriend, star actress Hayden Panettiere, who is 13 years Klitschko’s junior.
Klitschko, well-known to be better at delivering blows in the ring than in pressers, said that he respected Chisora if only because he had signed on to fight him, something WBA titlist David Haye had avoided.
However Klitschko was also clear to indicate he would win the bout and make Chisora look like the rookie he is.
"You say I have no boxing skills, you say it's going to be rough and tough," Klitschko retorted. “Maybe you consider me a bum in boxing. Well, good luck: I will make you eat your words […] I love to
do paintwork on your face."
Chisora has captivated British boxing fans by signing to fight Klitschko. Champion Haye recently wished him luck as well, but said that in all likelihood Chisora stands no chance defeating Klitschko and
that he was probably forced into signing a multi-fight contract if he does.
In fact Chisora has been tied to a three fight contract. In the event that he defeats Klitschko a first time around, he will find himself in the ring with WBA champion and older brother Vitali Klitschko
in a following fight. Another win would catapult him immediately into a second match with Wladimir Klitschko.
Haye’s explanation for rejecting a fight with Wladimir Klitschko earlier this year was that he didn’t want to be tied up for the next three years with the brothers. Perhaps he was onto something.
