Dereck Chisora gets license suspended by the BBBC – Boxing News
During a hearing with the BBBC (British Boxing Board of Control) yesterday, Zimbabwean-born British professional boxer Dereck Chisora got his professional boxing license cancelled. Chisora was present for the hearing to explain his part in a series of happenings
that took place before and after his brawl with Vitali Klitschko last month in Munich.
As per the proceedings, Chisora’s license has been banned for an indefinite time. According to the law, Chisora is free to apply for the license from tomorrow onwards, however he says he is going to wait and brainstorm on what needs to be done.
The hearing, which was held at the BBBC’s headquarters in Cardiff, was Chisora’s only chance to save his professional career for the time being, only if he had convinced the members. He was present at the hearing with his promoter Frank Warren and his lawyer
Jonathan Crystal QC. The proceedings lasted for around 4 hours during which Chisora along with his team tried to explain his actions.
After the proceedings, Chisora was asked about his plans, he said, “I will consider my next move during the next few days. I will sit down with my team and look at all the options before making any move. I regret every single thing that happened and right
now I just want to move on and continue my career.”
Luckily, Chisora did not face a fine from the BBBC and just got his license cancelled. In addition, he is banned to enter the ring for ‘an indefinite time period’, which means he can get his license renewed today, tomorrow or maybe after a year.
Chisora’s promoter Warren said, “We will consider an appeal but first we will all sit down later this week to look back on what has happened and look forward to what can happen.”
Dereck Chisora had Vitali Klitschko in a press conference a day before their bout. He also spat water on Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir’s face before their bout. Lastly, he got involved in a public brawl with David Haye in the post-bout conference. All
these three incidents have put Chisora’s career in jeopardy.
