Derek Chisora enlists giant help in upcoming fight
In preparation for his upcoming December 11 meet with heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko, Derek Chisora has been utilizing Hatton Promotions’ undefeated 6"8' prospect, the suitably named Richard Towers.
Towers is even taller than Klitschko, and therefore an extraordinarily valuable asset for the smaller Chisora, who hopes to gain experience on how to fight “Dr. Steelhammer” through the British fighter.
Towers, 31, admitted: “It is fair to say I am playing the part of Klitschko and it is an honour to be invited. It is an amazing experience for a fighter like me to be asked by one of Britain’s best boxers to help him train for a world heavyweight title
challenge. The Chisora team are treating me brilliantly and it shows what I have to do to become a champion,” Towers said.
Chisora has been training in isolated Fort William, Scotland, to avoid the bright lights of London.
Though he has only 14 professional fights, Chisora has not been taken lightly by Klitschko, who acknowledged the up-and-comer as lethal and energetic in the ring.
The question is whether Chisora will be able to stand up to the paralyzing jab and one-two of Klitschko, who has knocked out 49 of 58 professional opponents.
British promoter Frank Warren said recently that if Chisora should beat Klitschko, he will become a national hero in England.
In that scenario he will likewise find himself back in the ring with the older Vitali Klitschko, who is contractually set to fight Chisora immediately should Chisora beat Wladimir.
As British fans love the underdog, Chisora has found himself generally well-received in London, similar to heavyweight hopeful Audley Harrison, who will be fighting WBA titlist David Haye at the MEN Arena in Manchester November 13.
Haye, on the other hand, has seen his popularity flounder after he failed to take negotiations seriously with the Klitschko brothers and engage them in a fight.
Haye has become so obviously recognized as a paper champion boxing insider, Dan Rafael has taken to calling him David “The Ducker” Haye.
