Derek Dorsett scores game-winner to lead Columbus Blue Jackets over St. Louis Blues 2-1 -NHL Update
Columbus needed a saviour with the match coming to a close and the game fixed in a tie, but Derek Dorsett did not let his team by as the player potted the third period game-winner to life Blue Jackets above St. Louis Blues, 2-1, on Tuesday night, February
14, 2012, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
At a time when St. Louis Blues looked to be unbeatable as they won four straight coming into the contest and sitting at number four in the Western Conference with 75 points, the lowest ranked team in the lead rallied to take them down.
The Blue Jackets are sitting at number 15 in the West with 40 points and as the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) comes closer and closer to the highly anticipated playoffs, Columbus definitely does not have what it takes to reach the postseason contention
line before then.
Columbus might not be making the playoffs but that does not mean they will stop working hard in the regular season.
"We played hard," Dorsett said. "We've just got to make sure we play that way the rest of the season and show (everyone) that we do care. We want to win as many games as possible. It doesn't matter what's at stake. If we have to be the spoilers, then we'll
be the spoilers."
David Backes kicked off the scoring with his 17th of the year while St. Louis was missing Barret Jackman due to a minor penalty.
Columbus’ defenseman, James  Wisniewski levelled the contests nearly a minute later during the final seconds on the same power play as both team headed into the second tied, 1-1.
"We outplayed them in the first, they outplayed us badly in the second and third," Former Columbus coach and now St. Louis head, Ken Hitchcock, said. "They were much the better team today. We've gotten away with this on the road the last couple of games
and won. Tonight we didn't."
Columbus has been up and down all season long, which does not give them any better ratings as they face Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday while St. Louis Blues host New York Islanders on Thursday.
