Derek Holland and Matt Harrison lead rotational wins for Texas Rangers
While many fans would expect the likes of C. J. Wilson and Colby Lewis to lead the Texas Rangers with rotational wins, it has been the other ‘two’ who have lately impressed the supporters. In a recent series win over the Baltimore Orioles, Matt Harrison
and Derek Holland provided the club with two important wins in the last two games.
The Rangers are currently 8 – 1 (wins to losses) in their campaign, so far. With Lewis picking up an embarrassing shutout loss on Saturday, it has been the third and fourth choice players that have come up on top. While the O’s were not able to beat the
visitors at home, they will know one thing for a fact: The Rangers have a strong pitching contingent.
"You look at Harrison and Holland - at one time they were six, seven or eight on their depth chart," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "A lot of depth in their pitching, and that's why they were American League champions last season. They run a lot of
good arms out there at you."
Harrison has pitched up seven innings in each of his two starts, this season, and conceded seven hits, but has also just allowed two runs off those opportunities. With three walks allowed, he is on 11 strikeouts. Comparatively, Holland has been doing well
too. While Harrison has an earning runs average of 1.29, Holland has an earning average of 2.25. So far he has pitched in 12 innings and allowed 12 hits.
The hurler has allowed just three runs and three walks, while striking out 11 hitters. It is important to note that the ball thrower did not concede a single run in his outing against the Orioles on Sunday.
"They're doing a great job," said manager Ron Washington. "They have been able to get into some situations that were tough and pitch their way out of it. That is what pitching is all about. They are showing their growth and maturity."
While the two players previously have found themselves in sticky situations, they have shown great mentality to nudge themselves out of jams.
