Derek Holland looking to add another post-season win in birthday celebration – MLB Playoffs
Texas Rangers’ starting pitcher Derek Holland may have wanted his birthday celebrated with a win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, October 9 but his wish called upon the rain showers to clear the schedule at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Game 2 of the
American League Championship Series is now scheduled to take place on Monday, October 10.
Holland sports a misleading moustache and that has become a source of inspiration for the fans that sport fake facial hair to support the hurler. Holland has been growing the unusual mascot for the last three months.
Derek Holland has been an impressive star for the Texas Rangers. With 32 game starts, the star has gone 16-5. The player was supposed to face Max Scherzer of the Tigers on Sunday but rain cancelled the game. The postponement decision came early and Holland
was glad things wrapped fast, given the weather and pitch conditions.
"It's definitely good to know now. You don't want to be here constantly waiting, having it pushed back, then wait some more," he said.
The player has been on a rise to fame this season. With a tender age of just 25, the hurler has a lot to offer the club. After losing Cliff Lee during the 2010 off season, the Rangers have gained two top stars in the mix. Derek Holland and Matt Harrison
are looking good. Holland talked about his transition into a regular pitcher.
"Last year, I didn't really know what to expect, how to handle anything," Holland said. "I have a better idea, especially after being around with Cliff [Lee], and then C.J. [Wilson] has been helping me big time this year in how to handle myself as a starter.”
Holland will be going up against Scherzer on Monday and he is now looking keen to add another win to his post-season career log. Both teams will be looking to dominate early, as rain may play havoc with the series. The Tigers aggressive game plan will be
targeting a win in Game 2 to level the series.
