Derek Holland looks to put disappointment behind him in postseason
Derek Holland was the Texas Rangers’ best pitcher in the World Series and every fan can attest to that fact. The hurler was one of the deeply disappointed stars to walk away from the competition as the club crashed out of their title bid with last game defeat
to the St. Louis Cardinals. The pace ball thrower talked to the press from the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington as he expressed his despair in seeing his team bow out of the last stage in the Major League Baseball.
Entering the offseason, many baseball experts will look back at the hurler’s brilliant performance in Game 4 when he pitched 8 1/3 scoreless innings in the encounter and managed to win the match for the Rangers with a 4 – 0 score line.
Coming in to pitch Game 6 and Game 7 as a reliever was an honour but it made little impact as the club lost the games, eventually. The heartbreak of losing a title bid for the second year in a row will haunt the Rangers for a long time. However Holland looks
to work off the despair in the next couple of weeks.
"I don't know. Obviously I'm going to let it grow out through November," Holland said. I'm doing the November thing [no-shave November]. It's going to help out, but we'll see. I'm not really going to say too much, because I don't know what I'm going to do
yet."
Nevertheless, Holland was proud to be part of the squad that got the club this far, for the second time in its history. He talked for the club and the players as he summarized the postseason campaign.
"We appreciate what we've done, and we're happy and blessed with the things that happened, but at the same time, it's a letdown for us," Holland said. "We made it for the second year in a row, and we didn't get the job down. I feel like we let ourselves
down, our fans down and Texas down. We had the team to do it."
With the regular season a long way ahead, Holland looks to continue his work on the field and ride on his experience.
