Derek Holland settling in on starter’s role as he guides Texas Rangers over Cleveland Indians 9-1
Derek Holland put in a tremendous pitching performance as the Texas Rangers convincingly beat the Cleveland Indians 9-1 on Wednesday, September 14 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Things are looking good for Texas Rangers and starter Derek Holland as the hurler has been picking up some important victories over the past few games and is looking to settle in on the top of the pitching rotation.
Holland moved to his 14th win in style as he restricted the Indians to just one run from six hits and three balls in seven innings of pitching. The ball thrower picked up six strike-outs and reduced his earned runs average to 4.02. The star had
cover from the hitters who pounced on the Indians’ starter, David Huff for eight runs in the fourth inning.
Nevertheless, the star maintained his composure, conceding a solo home-run to Indians’ Lonnie Chisenhall in the top of the fifth.
The player has been climbing the ropes and one of the biggest changes that have come from him, has been his game starts. In 2010 he started 10 games. This season, he’s on 30. There is a lot to look forward to.
"He's growing," Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said. "He's been through it with us last year but out of the bullpen in a different way."
For Holland, the situation is not something he would be surprised about.
"I know that talks always have been, 'Can Derek do it or not? He's always been hot or cold,'" Holland said. "It's like flipping a coin, is what [one beat writer] told me. I think I feel pretty consistent now. I feel pretty good about myself."
If the hurler maintains his level of composure, he can look to go up to 16 wins this season. Derek Holland was brilliant on the mound as he managed to show his pitching strength and adaptability to his new role as a starter. Only time will tell what type
of an impact Holland will have on the team for the remainder of the regular season.
