Derek Holland shines with shutout win over New York Yankees – MLB News
New York Yankees continued their decline as they took another embarrassing 0-2 defeat at the hands of Texas Rangers at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Thursday, June 27 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major
League Baseball regular season.
With their win, the Rangers also secured a memorable series win at Yankee Stadium. Rangers lost 3-4 in the opener but they fought back superbly in Game 2 to stay alive in the series. With momentum on their side, the Rangers continued
the good work in the finale to complete a deserving series win.
On the other hand, Yankees will be disappointed after taking another series loss at home. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees can find their lost form to have any chance of replacing the Boston Red Sox at the top of American
League East Division standings table.
Starting pitcher, Phil Hughes, had a decent time on the mound, as he allowed just five hits and two runs in eight solid innings but the batting lineup was unable to put up a single run on the board and Hughes ended up taking his
seventh loss this year.
For the Rangers, starter Derek Holland produced a magical performance, allowing just two hits in nine scoreless innings while striking out seven batters. Holland improved to 6-4 with an outstanding effort.
“Holland did more than give the bullpen a break. He also spared the Rangers a possible inconvenient return to the Bronx -- a huge rainstorm was due later in the afternoon, and Texas isn't scheduled to play in New York again this
season. The 26-year-old lefty struck out struck seven, walked two and didn't permit a runner after the third inning. He was in complete command in a 92-pitch performance, throwing a sharp slider for strikes, and won for the first time in five starts”, said
ESPN MLB.
Ian Kinsler hit a sacrifice fly to left in the third inning to break the deadlock and put Rangers on the board. Third baseman Jurickson Profar homered to right in the fifth to double Rangers’ lead to 2-0.
