Derek Jeter cracks a joke about his team-mate Robinson Cano – MLB New York Yankees Update
Robinson Cano had his worst outing of the season at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City in the All Star Home Run Derby. Cano, who won the competition last year, went 0-for-10 as the Royals’ fans loved to see him failing.
According to sources, Cano chose not to pick Royals’ hitter Billy Butler and the local crowd turned extremely angry on his decision. Royals’ fans wanted to see the local boy play a crucial role in Monday’s Home Run Derby but that did not turn out to be the
case.
Yankees’ Captain Derek Jeter cracked a joke about his team-mate, who got booed by the crowd in Kansas City. In an interview, Jeter stated that Boston is the place where the fans really boo. Jeter, who made his 13th All Star appearance on Tuesday,
saw the funny side of the incident.
Yankees’ second baseman also loved to play on the same team with David Ortiz. Both Ortiz and Jeter have represented the American League seven times.
"Man, I played in the All-Star Game in Boston in '99. It sounded like cheers Robbie got," Jeter said. "They don't just boo anybody. They booed him but I'm sure he'll get over it."
"That's one of the things that you enjoy about the All-Star Game, is you get the opportunity to get to know some guys that you don't know normally," Jeter said. "You admire people from afar, but when you're actually in the same clubhouse, you get a chance
to know them and get to know their personalities."
In baseball, fans have all the right to express their emotions. They pay costly tickets to watch their stars in action but Royals’ fans took it a bit too far on Monday. Cano was clearly upset by all the events as he failed to hit a single home-run in the
first round.
Detroit Tigers’ Prince Fielder belted 28 home-runs to win the title for the second time in just four years. Cano looked dejected at the end of the contest. It will be interesting to see if he can get over that ugly episode to lead the Yankees to the World
Series finals.
