Derek Jeter is a role model for youngsters – MLB New York Yankees News
Derek Jeter is one of the greats of the game. Since making his debut with New York Yankees, the guy has produced inspirational performances. Not only is he one of the top hitters in the American League, he also has a unique ability to come up with his best
in pressure situations.
Yankees’ owner was quick to spot his leadership abilities and he wasted no time in giving Jeter an opportunity to lead the team. The captain has not disappointed the management or the fans since accepting his new role.
Considering the fact, he has played 18 Major League Baseball seasons with the Yankees; Jeter is a very respectable figure among New York’s players and coaching staff. He was a key member of Yankees’ roster that dominated the big league in 1990s and 2000s.
“Derek has always played with a relentless, team-first attitude. And that mind-set has helped sustain this organization’s objective of fielding championship-caliber teams year after year. It’s only fitting that he reach 3,000 hits during a victory against
one of our American League rivals," Yankees’ owner Hank Steinbrenner said.
“You knew from the start there was something special about him,” Former Yankees manager Joe Torre said of Jeter.
His on field leadership, base-running and hitting ability makes him a dangerous customer to deal with. Above all, he is one of those leaders who set very high standards for himself.
If a youngster is struggling with anything, Jeter will do everything in his powers to help him come out of trouble. Having won twelve All Star selections, five Golden Glove Awards and four Silver Slugger Awards, he has massive experience under his belt.
“I had the opportunity to play with Derek when he was a rookie in 1996, and I had no doubts that Derek would reach this milestone," Hall of Famer Wade Boggs said.
Averaging .313 with his bat, he is only the 28th player to have more than 3000 career hits. His desire to pass his skills on to the youngsters is what makes him so special. It will be interesting to see if he can lead Yankees to another World
Series title this season.
