Derek Jeter looking confident ahead of Spring Training – MLB News
According to a leading baseball website, Derek Jeter has already started to train for the upcoming Spring Training session. Jeter, who played 17 Major League Baseball season for New York Yankees, has a reputation of being a very hard worker. Taking advantage of Yankees’ amazing training facility, the 37-year-old will be looking to work on his health and fitness.
Although Spring Training does not start for another two weeks, the veteran shortstop is showing his commitment towards his responsibilities. In an interview, Jeter stated that with the inclusion of Prince Fielder, Detroit Tigers has become even stronger than before. However, he is convinced that the Yankees have a very capable offence and they can give the Tigers run for their money. Jeter also praised new pitcher Michael Pineda’s throwing abilities.
"He has a presence on the mound," Jeter said.
The Yankees will be relying heavily on their ace, C.C. Sabathia and Michael Pineda to achieve their goals. The Tigers, on the other hand, have signed a nine year $214 million with Fielder a few weeks ago to power their hitting line-up. With the presence of Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder, the Tigers will be looking to win the World Series title this season. Jeter added that he does not pay too much attention to the rumours going around in the organisation but he concentrates on his game play.
"I learned a long time ago, you show up at spring training, you read the name tags and you move on. If you paid attention to all the rumours that went around in our organization, I think you’d drive yourself crazy," said Jeter.
“In my mind I’m still, I wouldn’t say 18, but somewhere between that and [37],” the shortstop further added. “This is the only place I’ve wanted to play, the only place I ever thought of playing. I’ve been fortunate.”
Answering a question, Jeter said he considers himself very lucky to be a part of one of the best baseball clubs in Major League Baseball. As a child, he always wanted to play for the Yankees. Jeter will be looking to make the most of available opportunities to end his career on a high note.
