Derek Jeter looking to shut his critics – MLB New York Yankees News
Derek Jeter is one of the most experienced players in New York Yankees. Having played 17 big league seasons, he is also a very famous figure among the Yankees’ fans. The Yankees haven’t officially started their full squad workouts yet but Jeter has been training for the last two weeks. Since making Major League Baseball debut, the player has improved his game play significantly by means of consistent and persistent hard work.
Jeter’s critics believe that he is too old to perform his duties effectively. The shortstop looked completely out of sorts in the beginning of 2010. It appeared as if his best days were behind him. However, his fans kept supporting him and he managed to find his lost form in the final 11 weeks of 2011. Making the most of available opportunities, he helped the Yankees secure unforgettable wins past season. Considering he is 37, many baseball writers and analysts wonder if he can maintain his great form throughout the next season.
Drafted into Yankees’ Minor League system 20 years ago, Jeter knows the importance of staying healthy and fit. He reaches the Yankees training facility early in the morning to sprint. In addition to his abilities on the field, Jeter is known to be great team mate. He is always looking to help the youngsters. Yankees’ General Manager Brian Cashman is convinced that Jeter still has a lot of baseball left in him.
“What he did late last year said, ‘I’m not done yet,’” Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long said.
General Manager Brian Cashman said: “I think he is an above-average player.”
“For some people the more analytical and mechanical you get the worse they are,” one of his team mates said. “I was probably throwing too much out there.”
Probably, that is why, for the 17th straight season, Jeter will be opening the regular season as a starting shortstop. Although he struggles against the right handed pitchers occasionally, the overall quality of his game play since the start of 2010 season has been extremely satisfactory. He will be looking to perform consistently in 2012 to justify his place on the Yankees' roster.
