Derek Jeter starts running in rehab – MLB New York Yankees News

According to a leading sports website, New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter began running for the first time in rehab. It seems the only thing holding him back is himself. According to sources, Jeter started working out for the first time since October last
year.
Jeter had an excellent time on the plate last season. He performed brilliantly with the bat, helping the Yankees emerge victorious in several important encounters. It will not be wrong to say that he was one of the key players in Yankees’ batting lineup
last season.
Although the Yankees went to win the American League East Division title, they were hammered by the Detroit Tigers 0-4 in the American League Championship Series. Jeter was unfortunate to pick up a serious ankle injury during the series and he had to spend
six months on bed to recover from the injury.
“I haven’t used my legs, so I’ve got to get back to using them,” Jeter said. “I just have to be careful with my ankle, but now I’ve gotten the green light with that and I’ve gotten all the green lights I need.”
However, the shortstop is confident and optimistic ahead of 2013 Spring Training. In an interview, Jeter said he is felt great after a session on the treadmill. However, he added that he will need to participate in regular training sessions to get back into
prime form. Yankees’ outfielder Curtis Granderson was also present at the camp and he though Jeter was his usual self.
“He was just running straight forward, but he looked good,” Granderson said. “I didn’t think about [the injury] because he wasn’t ... hobbling or wincing in pain or making any of those gestures. To me, it just looked like he was warming up. You hear things
about it and you expect people to be helping him off the field and that’s not the case.”
Manager Joe Girardi and General Manager Brian Cashman have already said the 38 year old Jeter will not be rushing back this spring. Jeter was seen sitting on the infield grass and moved little to his side in an effort to make a comeback from his ankle injury.
It will be interesting to see if Jeter can return to Major League Baseball world before the regular season.
