Derek Jeter whirls attention as personal feat of 3,000 hits on horizon – MLB Update
Derek Jeter is a certified Cooperstown Inductee for the future and that is by no way an understatement. The hitting short-stop is now gaining attention in the media due to his move to avail 3000 hits, this season. The player has a lot going for him and if
it is the fans, it is his contract that is slated to last beyond two years, as his countdown to the milestone figure will edge closer as soon as the 2011 Major League Baseball season kicks off.
There is no doubt in any fan’s mind that Jeter will one day lift his helmet to commemorate his accomplishment on the field. From what can be generally as a wishful thought, the New York Yankees would want that to happen in Boston, in front of the Red Sox
faithful. Needing just 74 more hits, Jeter is planning to accept the feat.
"I'll try to enjoy it, I guess," Jeter said. "I think in the past I've pretty much tried to block it out and not pay attention to it. For myself, I'll appreciate the journey and have fun with it. The great thing is, it's a hit thing. Every time you're up
there, you're trying to get a hit anyway."
Jeter thought the same in 2008 and 2009 when he took over Lou Gehrig in hits at the old Yankee Stadium and hits as a Yankees player.
"I couldn't wait for it to be over with, because I really didn't like the focus to be on me," Jeter said.
Though there are doubts about his form, following an average season in 2010, but Jeter is working on his game and he looks ready to dawn the stage with Hall of Fame mentality.
"You think about what you can do to improve and get better," Jeter said. "That's what motivates you. You want to be the best that you can be, not because you're sitting down and looking at numbers."
Jeter further told the representatives of the press that he was working hard to improve the things he fumbled on, last year. The player emphasized that he was generally working on improving his overall performance.
