Derek Jeter’s homers take New York Yankees to 12-5 win over Texas Rangers – MLB Update
Derek Jeter homered twice to lead the New York Yankees to a 12-5 victory over Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark, Arlington on Sunday, May 8.
The Yankees had different plans set for Sunday’s game against the Rangers. The smart combination of defence and offence was more of a stun of astonishment for the Rangers. However, it was Jeter who homered twice to take the victory for the Yankees.
CC Sabathia whose timely feat contained the Rangers’ hitters credited Jeter for the excellent win on Sunday. "He told me the other day he's starting to feel good and he showed it today," said Sabathia, "He's been a good player for a long time. Sitting on
the bench, he had an at-bat and said, 'I'm feeling good. That's exciting to hear."
"Everybody needs a day like this, regardless if you're swinging well or you're not swinging well," Jeter said. "I just want to be comfortable....It's pretty difficult to hit when you're sitting around trying to think of too many things, and I found myself
thinking of things early on."
However, the game began with the two-run homer from Mike Napoli for the Rangers, followed by Murphy who scored the third run for his team, giving Texas a 3-0 lead by the end of the first inning. Elvis Andrus made it 4-0 for Rangers in the second inning,
as Jeter started unleashing his hitting fury. Dave Bush of Rangers was taken to task, hit thrice in the inning which brought the score to 4-2.
Jeter homered to right to bring Rangers’ lead down to 4-3 and with Alex Rodriguez’s single, Yankees had levelled the score. Derek scored his fourth run of the game in the seventh inning. Curtis Granderson homered to right to take the score to 6-4 for the
Yankees. Texas’ hitters had only once to score in the seventh inning, as Adrian Beltre scored the fifth run for the Rangers.
Francisco Cervelli had a massive hit in the eighth inning, giving four runs to the Yankees. That was the most well-timed hit that piled up Yankees’ score to 10-5, as Mark Teixeira scored a two-run homer, leaving Rangers completely out of the game in the
face of unplayable pitchers. Lance Pendleton pitched a shut-out 9th inning to pave an easy 12-5 victory for New York against Texas.
