Derek Landri: Philadelphia Eagles had the best defensive line in the last season – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive tackle, Derek Landri, who has recently re-joined the team after becoming a free agent after the end of the last National Football League (NFL) season, has said that Eagles had the best defensive line in the last season.
Soon after re-signing a one-year deal with the team, Landri said that the Eagles were one of the best teams in the league last year and had the potential to win the Super Bowl.
Landri is not the first one to have uttered such remarks about Eagles. In fact, a lot of other players including some experts deemed Eagles as one of the Super Bowl contenders before the start of the last season.
However, the team failed badly and made a pathetic start to the season as after winning the season opener against St. Louis Rams, Eagles went on to lose four games in a row with the defeats coming against Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers
and Buffalo Bills.
Eagles were unable to show consistency, but they found their winning rhythm back towards the end of the season and won four games in a row to close the season. Eagles defeated Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins.
However, the Eagles failed to qualify for the playoffs as they ended the season with eight victories and eight defeats and were ranked at second spot in the National Football Conference (NFC) East division, which was topped by the Giants, who eventually
won the Super Bowl.
Landri thinks that Eagles had a potential to do better than that and hopes that the team would perform well in the next season to silence the critics.
He commented:
"We have potential to be better than we were last year, and we left a few things on the table last year. I’m not satisfied at all with the outcome, and I decided to come back and be a part of it.”
One of the reasons for Landri’s return to the side is the team’s defensive line coach, Jim Washburn. While appreciating the coach, Landri said:
“He coaches harder than any coach I’ve ever been around and expects more out of us than any coach I’ve been around. At the same time, he respects us and cares for us as ballplayers and people. It makes a big difference."
