  1. The difference between the 2 is

Panesar can take wickets on a nice spin bowlers pitch, but he rarely gets a huge wicket-hall in tough spin bowling conditions

    Whilst

Underwood on good pitches, against good players, would still take plentiful wickets through his unfailing accuracy.

Underwood is out of Panesar's league, he turned the ball more, he had more variations than Monty, and he won more matches than Panesar

  2. Derek Underwood.

  3. Underwood played on uncovered pitches, making it far easier to turn the ball off the surface,so MP

  4. Monty Panesar!

  5. Monty Panesar.

  6. Derek Underwood

  7. Panesar isn't fit to lace Underwood's boots.

Panesar has got to be the worst player on the international circuit.

He's only a half decent bowler and his batting and fielding are embarrassing.

Can you see him playing for the Aussies? He wouldn't be allowed near their scorebook.

  8. Sorry but there is absolutely no contest here.

Deadly Derek Underwood was the best left arm spinner England has ever had.

Monty is not a bad bowler but it is such a shame that he is such an appalling all round cricketer. I think Steve Harmison [49 not out] and Freddie in the previous match will have something to say about his running between the wickets. His fielding makes an average club player who trots between long leg and deep mid off look like Jonty Rhodes.

Phil Edmonds and Tuffers were also better but dear Monty does have the edge over Richard Illingworth.

  9. Monty is best because he is the oldest player playing cricket

  10. I really think this is a non-contest. Granted Panesar is just still relatively new, he has nowhere near the raw talent Underwood had. They are different eras and play under different conditions, but the basics are still the same. And when it comes down to it is the fundamentals of our game that make players what they are. Fundamentally Underwood has the edge in all aspects Vs Panesar.

  11. Panesar is just an average county bowler. He is a liability with the bat and in the field.

He is not an international cricketer.

  12. Panesar is a slightly better bowler than Underwood. I give 70.3 marks to Panesar and 66.1 marks to Underwood.

Underwood is a slightly better batsman (9 marks against 4.3 marks) and fielder (11.7 Vs 3.8) than Panesar.

Overall, Underwood is a better player than Panesar (54.2 Vs 48.2 marks).

  13. The best English left-arm spinner, in my view, was Phil Tufnell. He was a match winner but rarely picked because he was allegedly difficult to manage.

  14. MP any day..

  15. Monty

  16. Monty is new to test cricket and still has a lot  learn. Has not been around long enough to make a comparative judgement with the likes of DU. Apart from that the game is so different now with the expert coaches, heavier bats, but if i had to make a choice i think it would have to be Monty because of the tenacious attitude of the game today.

  17. MP

  18. Monty Panesar any day!
