Derek Warwick wants Mercedes to be competitive in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver Derek Warwick has said that he wants Mercedes to be competitive in the 2013 so that his compatriot, Lewis Hamilton may perform well and attain good results.
Hamilton is going to leave McLaren at the end of this year and will join the Silver Arrows in the next season. Moreover, he will drive alongside Nico Rosberg and will replace the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher who has said good bye to the
sport.
The British driver expressed that he is very happy with his decision and is eagerly looking forward to the new challenge. In addition, he said that he will try his best to perform well for Mercedes in the next year and will definitely help his team in making
the necessary development in the car so as to score good points right from the start.
However, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh believes that the 27-year-old may struggle in the Brackley based team which faced a lot of technical issues in this season and it is much expected that the same problems will persist in the coming
year too.
Furthermore, Warwick also thinks that the 2008 world champion may regret his decision about moving to Mercedes in the next season as they struggled a lot during this year.
“We have a stability in the rules for next year so you would suspect we will pick up at the start of 2013 where we left off this year,” Warwick said.
“I am sure Lewis Hamilton will hope that is not the case. Mercedes are working on a new car but their performance this year was not just disappointing, it was very, very poor,” he said.
Nevertheless, the Briton said that he really hopes that Mercedes will be more competitive in the next year.
“I desperately hope Mercedes will be competitive but either Lewis knows something we don't or he's lying in bed at night thinking, ‘What have I done!’” he added.
It is to be noted that the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn has said that they are trying their best to provide their new driver a competent car so that he may claim the championship title.
