Dermot Weld greatly concerned about the ground at Curragh which may be unsuitable for his runners
Trainer Dermot Weld is doubtful about the surface of the track and may scratch his runner Famous Name from the Tattersalls Gold Cup which is due to take place at Curragh on 27th May, 2012.
The trainer seems worried about the surface of the track and has decided to rule the seven-year-old out of the running if the ground is firm.
Speaking to the press, he addressed his concerns and stated:
"The horse I would be concerned about on the ground is Famous Name. I'll look at the hill, it's pretty firm at the moment and if they don't get enough water on, I'd be wrong to run him. He's doubtful."
The son of Dansili, out of mare Fame At Last, landed a magnificent victory in the Group 3
Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown, where he raced as a favourite with a 1-5 chance and was mounted by jockey, P. J. Smullen.
Since the surface of the track was labelled good to soft, he found it easy to run and managed to score as he defeated the Thomas Carmody trained Sweet Lightning by 4 ½ lengths.
Weld also faces a dilemma over Yellow Rosebud and the fast track in the Etihad Airways Irish 1000 Guineas, since he believes that the ground does not suit her well.
The trainer stated that:
"She's very well, she's a good filly. She does bend her knee a little bit which means she hits the ground a bit hard, so I'm a little bit concerned about the ground, that'd be my main concern. It's going to be on the fast side and hopefully she'll handle
it."
The daughter of Jeremy, out of mare Nebraas, lacks a little bit experience but is likely has demonstrated superior racing skills.
The bay filly, who is under the ownership of Dr. R.Lambe, emerged victorious from the Group 3 Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown, where she entered the 1 mile event with a 13-2 shot.
With rider P. J. Smullen on her back, she used his guidance to break through the wire first, 1 length ahead of Devotion.
