Dernbach out of Australia series due to side strain – Cricket News Update
England pace bowler, Jade Dernbach, who replaced injured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 in the second One Day International against Australia on Sunday, has been ruled of the remainder of the NatWest Series himself due to a side strain.
The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed Dernbach’s omission on Monday, revealing that the Surrey seamer had sustained the injury during the six-wicket win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at the Oval.
In Sunday’s match, Dernbach shared the new ball with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Bresnan-c2711. Though the 26-year-old South Africa-born right-arm medium pacer returned wicketless, he was quite economical,
especially in his opening spell of four overs, conceding only 18 runs, including a maiden over as well. He could have claimed three wickets had http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032 not missed some close catches off his bowling in the fifth and the final over respectively.
The English skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, had a special word of praise for the young pacer after the victory on Sunday.
"Jade came in and did really well," Cook said after the victory, which gave them a 2-0 lead over traditional rivals in the five-match series.
"It was obviously disappointing for Jimmy not to play - but that's the reason why we have squads, and our strength in depth in seam bowling is really encouraging. For Jade to come in and perform as well as he did, bowling a
lot of Powerplay overs, is really good," he added further.
The lanky pacer, who has played 15 ODIs for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and has 20 scalps in his name, had already withdrawn from Wednesday’s third one-dayer at Edgbaston, Birmingham, as he will be attending his former county colleague Tom Maynard’s
funeral. Dernbach’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 teammate Stuart Meaker, who was called as cover for Anderson for the second One Day International will also accompany him in the funeral ceremony.
In the absence of Dernbach and Meaker, Chris Woakes has been called up as cover for Anderson for the third one-dayer. The ECB said that a decision on further reinforcements will be made after Wednesday’s match.
