Deron Williams, Derrick Rose earn player of the week award
For their stellar performances from 8 November to 14 November, Utah Jazz point guard Deron Williams and Chicago Bulls backcourt general Derrick Rose were named as the Western and Eastern Conference players of the week, respectively, the league announced on
Monday 15 November.
Williams spearheaded Utah’s campaign last week, averaging 23 points on 45.6 per cent clip from the field and 11.8 assists, as he led the Jazz to a perfect record in their four-game road trip including a come-from-behind 116-114 overtime win against the Miami
Heat on 9 November. The former Illinois standout finished with 21 points and 14 assists, handing the Heat their third defeat this season.
The 26-year-old guard followed it up with another outstanding game as he scored 30 points and dished out 14 assists, leading the Jazz to erase another double-digit deficit in the second half to escape with a 104-94 win over the Orlando Magic on 10 November.
The five-year veteran guard capped off the week with a 17-point performance, highlighted by a game winning shot against the Charlotte Bobcats, as the Jazz came back from another double-digit second-half deficit for the fifth-straight game.
Rose, on the other hand, led the Bulls to a 3-0 record last week with his 21.3 points on 43.1 per cent clip from the field and nine assists per game, improving their record to 5-3 despite playing without superstar power-forward Carlos Boozer, who is still recovering
from a broken hand.
The 2008 first overall pick recorded his third double-double of the season when he racked up 22 points and 13 assists in their 120-90 win over the Golden State Warriors on 11 November.
“I guess I'm playing good basketball, doing whatever it takes for my team to win,” said Rose, who scored 24 points and dished out nine assists in his first game against Washington Wizards’ first overall pick John Wall on 13 November. “I'm happy that I got the
award.”
