Deron Williams, Kris Humphries double up as New Jersey Nets down Charlotte Bobcats – NBA Recap
The New Jersey Nets on Saturday notched up a comfortable win over the Charlotte Bobcats 102 – 89. Playing at the Prudential Center, the Nets looked in control throughout and finished the game off with a comfortable score line.
"Everybody was locked in. Both teams were playing on a back-to-back so it really didn't matter who the opponent was tonight, we just needed to play well and win this game." New Jersey Nets coach Avery Johnson opined after the game.
The Nets were paced by super star point guard Deron Williams and increasingly impressive power forward Kris Humphries. Williams ran the show with 19 points and 14 assists but Humphries was equally effective with game high 20 points and game high 16 rebounds.
Gerald Wallace, who arrived in New Jersey on the trade deadline and is a former Bobcat, scored 15 points and had 7 rebounds.
"A win is a win to me," Wallace said. "I don't care who scores or who does what. We were already on a losing streak, so it was a must win for us. Scoring and all that has never been a big issue for me as long as we get a convincing win as we were supposed
to do."
Byron Mullens was a shining light on a dark night for the Bobcats. He came off the bench for team highs in points and rebounds, 17 and 10 respectively, in a double-double effort. Kemba Walker had 10 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds.
The Nets started the game with a 10 – 3 run. The Bobcats however were not rattled by the aggression early on and managed to stop the leak, trailing by just 5 points at the end of the first quarter, 26 – 21.
They did a good job in the second segment as well, holding the Nets to 22 points. They managed 21 themselves, and therefore at halftime were still in the hunt, trailing at 48 – 42.
After the break however New Jersey came out all guns blazing, simply blowing the Bobcats away. Charlotte had no reply to the Nets ferocious attack, as they stretched the lead to over 20 points, finishing the third at 81 – 58.
In the final 12 minutes New Jersey took their foot off the pedal and the Bobcats did a good job of cutting down the deficit. At the end, some respectability had been restored to the score line, 102 – 89.
