Deron Williams believes keeping people happy is the key to success – NBA Update
In recent times the game of basketball has been deemed a playground for true point guards. Whichever team is able to get their hands on a point guard who can not only create shots for himself but rather get easy opportunities for
his teammates – success is automatically bound to come its way.
The Brooklyn Nets hope to achieve a similar kind of feat by the re-signing of Deron Williams, who seems well aware of the role he is expected to fulfil with the new regime.
In a recent interview, Nets head coach Avery Johnson contemplated on what kind he wants from Williams and his main emphasis was on better ball movement.
Following up to the comments from Johnson, Williams who is part of the USA team participating in the London Olympics spoke on the matter and shed on the role he is expected to fulfil in the coming season. According to the swingman,
keeping everybody happy is the key to being a good point guard in the NBA.
"My job is to get everybody involved, keep everybody happy," Williams said. "There's a lot of egos, especially in the NBA. You've gotta feed into those, get guys the ball, notice when they feel they've been left out. you got to
find that balance, you've got to know your teammates, know their tendencies, know where they like the ball. I think that's a huge key. You've got to put your teammates in the perfect place to be successful."
There is no doubt that Williams is more than capable of scoring at will and taking over a game of basketball is not a problem for him. He has put up some very astounding performances in his career and his 57 point outing against
the Charlotte Bobcats in March is mere proof of his scoring abilities.
However that does not mean at all that Williams does not like sharing the ball on court. He might not be as talented a distributor as Rajon Rondo or even Chris Paul, but in the past, he has come up with some spectacular performances
– the 20 assists against Golden State Warriors in March was one his best displays in that regard.
Keeping in mind his exploits from the past season and the ones before, Williams believes that it’s time to show what he is capable of and be the leader for this newly found Brooklyn team.
