Deron Williams diagnosed with bone spurs in left ankle, will play through regular season – NBA News
As the Brooklyn Nets get ready to open their much anticipated and talked about 2012-2013 NBA season with their brand new arena, the last thing they need is for any of their superstar players to be diagnosed with injury.
The Nets are riding high on a wave of excitement and anticipation ever since they became the Brooklyn Nets, and would love to open the season with the same momentum and spirit. In the midst of all this comes the news that the Nets point guard Deron Williams, who was re-signed by the team in free agency this past summer, has bone spurs in his ankle.
Nets General Manager Billy King confirmed on Thursday that an MRI conducted on Williams’ showed that he had bone spurs in his left ankle and might have to undergo offseason surgery to have them cleaned up. King however quickly stated that the situation was under control and was not going to be a source of hindrance for either Williams or the Nets team. King added that the bone spurs were causing inflammation to the ankle of the point guard, and that Williams need some injections and missed two practices to recover.
Williams also talked about the latest discovery while appearing on ESPN SportsCenter and said that he was not worried about it, as it was routine for basketball players to have bone spurs cleaned up and would make a decision in the offseason of whether or not to get it operated.
"I think probably the majority of athletes have bone spurs that they deal with at some point in their career. I don't know if I'll have to have surgery. I'm just saying that might be something that happens after the season. But as far as right now, my ankle feels like new since I got the shots, so hopefully I won't have to have any surgery at all,” said Williams.
The Nets were scheduled to open their regular season against the New York Knicks on Thursday night at the Barclays Center, but the game was postponed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy which hit the East Coach of the USA. The Nets will now open their regular season on Saturday night against the Toronto Raptors at the Barclays Center, and the Knicks game has been rescheduled for November 26th by the NBA.
