Deron Williams drops 34 as New Jersey Nets edge past Philadelphia 76ers in O.T: NBA Recap
Out of the thirteen games that were played on Wednesday night, the one between New Jersey Nets and Philadelphia 76ers was by far the most thrilling of all.
Both teams fought brilliantly for the first 48 minutes and fittingly, by the final buzzer, the sides were locked at 82 all and the game headed to overtime. The Nets started extra time dominantly with a 6-2 run to get ahead 88-84; however 76ers were up to the task and immediately eliminated the lead and turned the complexion of the game by rattling a 6-0 run.
Unfortunately for the Sixers though, they failed to score after that and on the other hand, Deron Williams and Anthony Morrow keyed a 9-0 burst to see their side to an important win.
Deron - the backbone of Nets - finished with a game high 34 points on 14-for-28 from the floor including 3 for 7 from downtown and 11 assists.
"At the end of the game, we basically put the ball in Deron's hands and said, `Take us home,' and he did," Nets coach Avery Johnson said.
Morrow finished with 16 points on a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe while Kris Humphries, who has been jeered in every game of the season following his marriage and the divorce with the TV star Kim Kardashian, put up an all round performance by scoring 13 points and pulling down 19 boards.
Jordan Farmar came off the bench and netted 12 in his 29:12 minutes onside the court.
Louis Williams led the 76ers with 17 points on 7 for 15 from inside the arc and 6 assists whereas Elton Brand accumulated 16 points. Jrue Holiday was impressive and scored 14 including 2 for 2 from the long range along with 7 assists while Andre Iguodala finished with 12 points.
Andre said after the game that New Jersey are a strong unit and have underachieved so far.
"Their record doesn't show what they're capable of doing," Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala said.
76ers Coach Doug Collins also accepted his team was beaten by a better team tonight.
"They outplayed us in every phase," Collins said.
There was nothing much to differentiate between both the teams in terms of shooting, however Nets were hot from the long range and shot 12-27 from outside the arc. They also out-rebounded the 76ers 45-37.
