Deron Williams never wanted to be at the New Jersey Nets - NBA Update
New Jersey Nets are on the verge of losing their prized procession Deron Williams. The All Star point guard who joined the Nest in a midseason trade with Utah Jazz last season guard is already entertaining hopes to leave franchise
for good post season, when he becomes a free agent;
During an interview session with Marc J. Spears recently, Williams candidly discussed his future with the Nets;
“I didn’t ask to be here. I got traded. I didn’t come here being a free agent. This is the first time that I’m a free agent in my career.”
“People get traded all the time,” Williams told Yahoo! Sports. “They don’t get backlash as an organization. If [players] leave, we are not loyal, we are ungrateful. People say stuff to me on Twitter. They already think I’m gone.
They are out there bashing me, saying to me I’m a traitor”.
If that happens, the Nets will be in shambles next season. Their general manager Billy King has been trying hard to dissuade Williams from leaving the franchise ever since Williams got there. The Nets worked extra hours to somehow
get Orlando Magic superstar Dwight Howard into the organization, in order to make Williams stay, but after the injury to Brook Lopez, they had nothing except money to give to the Magic. And then what happened afterwards, that we all know.
It is believed that King even offered to make the 27 year old guard an unofficial assistant GM, but the lure of being part of a winning unit, seems to be the priority on Deron’s mind at the moment.
“I want to win. At the end of the day, I’m not getting any younger,” Williams said. “I’ll be 28 when I sign this next deal. I have to look for the best situation for me.”
Among the possible destinations for Williams in the free agency, defending champions Dallas Mavericks are the favourites. Williams, a Dallas native, would be an ideal replacement for veteran PG Jason Kidd and with help like Dirk
Nowitzki, Shawn Marion and Jason Terry available, he and the Mavs can go on to become formidable contenders.
If that happens, it will be a prudent decision for a player like Williams, averaging 21.6points, 8.6assists and 3.3 boards this season. He has the talent and the ability to achieve greatness and all he needs to do is to find some
decent help to win an NBA championship.
