Deron Williams officially a Brooklyn Net – NBA Update
As soon as NBA’s moratorium period on new business came to an end, the newly found Brooklyn Nets wasted no time in making this first block buster signing of the year by agreeing to a five year deal worth $98 million with All-star
point guard Deron Williams.
The dynamics of this new deal have been drawn in such a manner that Williams has the option of opting out of his contract after the fourth year comes to an end, but at the moment he seems very happy to make a return to the Nets.
"Officially a Brooklyn Net! Signed my contract on an iPad Just thank God for this wonderful Opportunity #HelloBrooklyn"  - Williams on his official twitter account.
Williams had agreed to stay with the Brooklyn Nets last week before heading to the training camp for Team USA which will take part in the 2012 London Olympics. With that, he put an end to the long lasting tug of war for his signature
between the Nets and the Dallas Mavericks.
"I am really excited to be able to officially say that Brooklyn is home," Williams said, "It is an incredible time to play in Brooklyn and to be a part of this organization, the first sports team to call Brooklyn home in over 50
years."
The newly formed Brooklyn team did everything on their end to make a return possible for Williams.
Nets have been the busiest team so far in the off season and have already made some significant changes to their roster. Joe Johnson, the star small forward from the Atlanta Hawks, has been added, Gerald Wallace has been included
in the lineup to strengthen the front court and the Nets recently signed their centre Brook Lopez for a four year – 60 million dollar deal.
Other major changes taking place are the reported signings of Mirza Teletovic and Reggie Evans. The official announcements for these moves are yet to be made.
The Mavericks were always thought to be the favourites to hire Williams, but the key improvement in the Nets roster was the main thing which lured Williams. Franchise general manager was at the heart of all these decisions and
was thrilled at the prospect of having one of the best point guards among their ranks.
"We are obviously thrilled that Deron will lead the Nets into our new home in Brooklyn," – Billy King.
