Deron Williams on fire as New Jersey Nets defeat Phoenix Suns 110 – 103 – NBA Recap
The New Jersey Nets, inspired by the dazzling play of super star point guard Deron Williams, defeated the Phoenix Suns in a close encounter. The game at the US Airways Center in Phoenix was well contested but Nets proved the stronger team in the end and
clinched a 110 – 103 win.
Deron Williams was everywhere on the night for the Nets as he controlled the game and willed his team to victory. Williams pulled out all the stops as he recorded game high numbers for both points scored, with 35, and assists handed out, with 14.
Marshon Brooks was another bright light for the team from New Jersey with his 20 points. Kris Humphries had 15 points and 6 rebounds while Anthony Morrow also recorded 16 points.
The Phoenix Suns were missing talismanic point guard Steve Nash on this occasion but gave more than a good account of themselves, with all five starters reaching double figures for scoring. Most impressive was Marcin Gortat, who had a double-double with
10 rebounds and 20 points. Ronnie Price and Jared Dudley both impressed with 18 points each, Channing Frye had 15 to his name while Shannon Brown chipped in with 13.
The Suns were stronger at the beginning and were up 15 – 10 near the halfway mark in the starting period. They continued to be the better team in the rest of the first quarter and finished it leading at 25 – 22.
The second quarter saw resurgence from the Nets who put on a 32 point display. The Suns managed 26 points themselves in the same period and were behind by just 3 points at halftime, the score 54 – 51 to New Jersey.
More up tempo stuff was to follow after the interval as both sides neglected their defensive responsibilities to play some free flowing basketball. The Suns had a productive third period with 31 points but were still outperformed by New Jersey who raked
in 34 before the final quarter was to start.
Heading into the last segment leading at 88 – 82, the Nets were favourites to win the game and they did not disappoint with a professional display. Phoenix cut the lead to 3 points but New Jersey responded with a run that took the gap into double figures.
It was plain sailing from there as New Jersey finished the game at 110 – 103.
