Deron Williams opens up about the NBPA Decertification – NBA Update
New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams was the first star players to move abroad because of the NBA lockout, which will now probably wipe off the entire NBA regular season.
The All-Star guard, despite being on the other side of the Atlantic, was quick to react to the news of the player’s union decertification. Williams was one of those players who had stressed upon the decertification at a very early
stage and he made sure that his views resounded;
“This is why I said we should have done this in July because at least the process would have been underway... even over! Now possibly #NOSEASON”
Williams signed a contract with Turkish team Besiktas in July with an opt-out clause, providing him leverage to come back to NBA once the season starts.
Deron’s acquisition is already starting to pay dividends for Besiktas as just few days ago, in his first game; he led the team to a critical win over Montepaschi Siena with 14 points, 8 rebounds and six assists.
The decertification of the union came after the player association officials met with the teams representatives in New York on Monday.
The owners had offered the players a take it or leave it deal and David Stern, the NBA Commissioner had warned that if the players decided to reject the latest proposal, there would be no further bargaining sessions.
With the decertification, the matter will now go to the federal court and given the time required in sorting out these issues, the season is almost done. There is however still time for the two parties to reach an on court solution
and that can be done in the 45 day period.
Williams however does not see any solution in that time frame and is already looking to the 2012 season, in which he will be a free agent.  The All-Star guard, who played the early part of his career at the Utah Jazz, was traded
to the New Jersey Nets in the middle of last season. However given his excitement, it doesn’t seem he wants to stay with the franchise;
“On the bright side, 2012 free agency could be amazing”. He tweeted on a basketball site.
This could sound as a warning for the Nets, who have been planning to built a team around Williams and launch a surge towards NBA glory in the years to come.
